MEET OUR COACHES
David Schiappa
David Schiappa in his 24th season with Gershkoff Baseball.
Gershkoff Baseball has won two state titles in 2008 and 2011. In 2008, the
team was in the semi finals one game away from the World Series. Gershkoff
has been runner up to the state title on three other occasions and is always in
the final four hunt year after year. Coach Schiappa was also a long time
Cranston Babe Ruth coach going to two 16 year old World Series capturing third
in the world twice. In addition, was a member of the Western Hills Junior
High School coaching staff for five seasons where they won the freshmen
state championship in 1998. He is a member of the American Legion Board of
Directors and has run several fall baseball leagues over the years.
Rob Malo, Mike Walsh, and Frank Devall join the coaching
staff this year. Rob and Mike are head baseball coaches of Cranston High
School West and Cranston High School East respectively. They are also physical
education teachers in each of their schools. Frank has had several
coaching stints in East Providence (baseball and football) and is a former in
Bridgewater State, East Providence, and Cranston West Administrator.
Dave Rathbun & Derek Dimeo
Dave Rathbun continues to lead our junior legion program along with Derek Dimeo. Dave has coached the junior team for six seasons and has coached many years in CWLL Little League and Senior League as well as Immaculate with baseball and just as many years in the Cranston softball community. Dave has been a great help preparing players for the Senior Level. Derek Dimeo has been David's longtime assistant who works at Cranston West and coaches freshmen baseball there as well.
Steve Rush and Brian Iafrate are the 15u Baseball Club coaches. Steve played for CHSW and then went on to RI College. He was also a Babe Ruth manager and currently manages in CWLL Senior League as well. Brian was a standout athlete at Johnston High School and is currently the middle school coach there. He was longtime assistant to the Varsity program in Johnston as well.
